Tuchel Seeks Jude Bellingham's Passion Provided England's Ace Leaves Egotism Outside.

A single omission proved sufficient. A second one and it would have started to look spiteful from Thomas Tuchel, a coach who is extremely shrewd not to realize that winning the World Cup will likely need the involvement of the talented midfielder, even if it is equally Bellingham's responsibility to adapt to the game plans and team pecking order necessary with England now that he is returned to Tuchel's supportive environment.

The manager wants the player's competitive fire, his fire, but it is about channeling it appropriately. Personal talent counts but England know from bitter experience that there is a cost when celebrity dominates. Nevertheless, a message has been sent.

The midfielder had much to ponder after his omission of the previous squad. He observed England secure their spot at next summer’s World Cup without him. He watched Morgan Rogers perform brilliantly as a high-pressing attacking midfielder. He heard Tuchel talk about loving the team's dynamism and ethics. Naturally, Bellingham has responded in champion style, netting important strikes for his club versus their rivals and the Italian side. He had to be picked; another omission would have put his tournament chances hanging by a thread.

The hope is that Tuchel will have a Bellingham focused on intimidating opponents instead of teammates. Ultimately, in purely sporting terms, there is little benefit to creating tension with one of the best players in the world. The ideal scenario is that Bellingham’s time not playing has demonstrated that representing the national team is a precious, uncertain thing. Tuchel, for his part, can now provide cover for the 22-year-old after showing that he is willing to drop big names.

“No issue exists with him, and no concern about his personality,” the German stated. “Jude displays a competitive streak. You need a certain edge to achieve greatness that he reached. We all need to support him and establish a setting which he can [have] his drive towards opponents and for the objectives we are striving for as a team.”

The star dominated much of the focus at the manager's selection reveal for the upcoming meaningless matches versus one opponent and the other. Any other news? Indeed, how about Phil Foden? This is a further gifted No 10 who needs love and guidance. He has been absent for England since spring and has found it hard to perform well this year but Tuchel could not ignore the 25-year-old after his performance in Manchester City’s win versus the German side recently.

The issue, though, is the best way to deploy the attacking talents at available. Morgan Rogers and Eze deserve their spots and there will be compelling reasons to select Cole Palmer once he is fit after a fitness issue. Would taking several attacking midfielders to the tournament be excessive? Gareth Southgate failed to discover the right blend at the European Championship. He compromised by forcing both stars into the team, restricting Harry Kane’s style as a result.

It is hard to see the current manager making the same mistake if it hurts the team harmony. There is room for one No 10, with quick attackers on the wings. Clarity is beneficial. Bellingham is in as a No 10. The new call-up, selected for the first time, is a No 8 and the returning Adam Wharton will battle another player as a defensive midfielder. There will also be no wide role for the City star, who has to be through the middle. The coach wants him near the striker. “It is illogical to tell Foden: ‘You are needed on the pitch but there’s no space in your preferred role, can you play the left side? Can you play right wing?” he stated. “He is to feature in the advanced midfield role, through the center. I have this vision regarding him for years. I think it suits him the most.”

He conceded there are times when the player has appeared uncomfortable in an national jersey. “One senses almost like, ‘Is he truly happy? And a player like him who has obvious passion to play football, then clearly an issue exists, whether it's the position, the environment, it's unclear.

“In my opinion he is also so used to representing his club in a certain structure, with a clear task. I think he profits greatly from clear instructions. What is my position? Where exactly am I to receive the ball? When should I to push the tempo? Where do I have to defend?

Tuchel mentioned Bellingham bursting through for easy finishes and the other scoring strikes from 18 yards. He added he has a longlist of 60 players. Morgan Gibbs-White, Myles Lewis-Skelly, the goalkeeper and the midfielder have been omitted. A new face is rewarded for his good displays for Manchester City at left-back. Intrigue is high.

The omission of Ollie Watkins means there is no direct replacement for the captain in this squad. Interestingly, he hinted at using Foden as a deep-lying striker against Serbia or the other. Anthony Gordon, the United forward, Bellingham and the winger are alternatives if he be unavailable. Since the place is booked, this is an opportunity for a little experimentation.

At the same time, it is also a moment to foster Kane’s relationship with Bellingham going. It's surprising that you have to go back to Bellingham assisting Kane to score in a friendly win versus Scotland in over a year ago to find the sole instance in many appearances for the national team when the duo linked up for a goal. The coach will know that the two stars only passed to each other once during England’s draws with Denmark and another at the European Championship. The connection is missing.

“At this point eventually it falls to the responsibility of the players,” Tuchel said. He does not shy away to be blunt. Remains a feeling of the player under scrutiny. He may not be guaranteed to start against the upcoming opponents. Tuchel wants him committed but he will be observing him closely. Leave self-importance outside. Doing so could turn a very strong squad into an superior one.
