President Donald Trump has stated he is hiking import taxes on products shipped from Canadian sources after the territory of Ontario ran an anti-import tax ad using late President Reagan.

In a online post on the weekend, Trump described the commercial a "misrepresentation" and condemned Canada's authorities for not pulling it prior to the baseball championship.

"Due to their serious falsification of the reality, and aggressive move, I am increasing the import tax on Canadian goods by 10 percent over and above what they are currently paying now," he wrote.

After the President on Thursday ended trade negotiations with Canada, the Ontario's leader stated he would remove the commercial.

Ontario's Reaction

Ontario Premier Doug Ford declared on Friday that he would halt his province's anti-import tax commercial series in the US, informing reporters that he decided after consultations with Prime Minister Carney "to ensure trade negotiations can continue".

He noted it would continue to air over the weekend, including contests for the World Series, which includes the Toronto Blue Jays facing the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Trade Situation

Canada is the only G7 nation state that has not secured a arrangement with the US since Trump started attempting to impose high import taxes on items from major trade partners.

The United States has previously applied a 35% levy on each Canada's products - though many are free under an existing free trade agreement. It has additionally imposed industry-specific levies on Canada's items, including a fifty percent tax on metals and 25% on vehicles.

In his message, published while he was traveling to Southeast Asia, the President indicated he was imposing 10 percentage points to those taxes.

75% of Canada's exported goods are sent to the United States, and the region is host to the majority of Canadian automobile manufacturing.

Reagan Advertisement Details

The commercial, which was funded by the Ontario authorities, cites late President Ronald Reagan, a GOP member and icon of American conservatism, remarking import taxes "damage all Americans".

The video takes excerpts from a 1987 broadcast that centered on global commerce.

The Ronald Reagan Foundation, which is charged with protecting the ex-president's heritage, had criticized the commercial for using "carefully chosen" audio and video and claimed it misrepresented Reagan's 1987 remarks. It also said the Ontario government had not requested permission to use it.

Current Conflicts

In his update on Truth Social on the weekend, the President claimed that the advertisement should have been taken down earlier.

"The Ad was to be pulled AT ONCE, but they kept it broadcasting yesterday during the MLB finals, realizing that it was a FRAUD," he posted, while flying to Asia.

the Premier had previously pledged to broadcast the Reagan advert in every Republican district in the United States.

The two Donald Trump and Carney will be going to the Association of Southeast Asian Nation in Malaysia, but Trump told the media traveling with him on the presidential plane that he does not have any "plan" of meeting with his Canadian PM during the trip.

In his message, the President also accused the Canadian government of trying to influence an future American high court case which could terminate his complete import duty program.

The case, to be considered by the highest US court in the coming weeks, will decide whether the tariffs are legal.

On Thursday, the President also criticized, stating that the commercial was created to "tamper" with "a crucial lawsuit"

Baseball Championship Connection

The advertisement is not the sole way that Ontario – location of the Blue Jays – is using the MLB finals as a stage to condemn the President's import taxes.

In a recording posted on Friday, the Premier and Governor the Governor humorously agreed on stakes about which side would triumph the series.

Both men frequently teased about tariffs in the video, with Ford vowing to send the Governor a container of syrup if the Dodgers win.

"The tariff might set me back a few extra bucks at the border currently, but it'll be justified," he stated.

In response, Newsom requested Doug Ford to restart enabling American drinks to be available in Ontario alcohol shops, and pledged to deliver "California's top-quality vino" if the Toronto team win.

They finished their dialogue each declaring: "To a great MLB finals, and a tax-free relationship between the region and California."
