Jennifer Lawrence States Mentioning Donald Trump Would ‘Intensify Divisions’ Dividing the Country Apart
The star has revealed that she no longer feels appropriate to speak out regarding the Trump presidency, fearing it could worsen divisive discussions and increase separation within the nation.
‘I Don’t Really Know If I Should’, Explains Lawrence
During a discussion, the Oscar winner reflected, “During the first Trump administration, I believed I was running around without clear direction. But experience has shown, election after election, celebrities do not make a difference whatsoever on voter decisions.”
She continued, “So then what am I doing? I’m just expressing personal views on something that’s going to add fuel to a fire that’s ripping the country apart.”
Shifting Views
Jennifer Lawrence has spoken candidly about backing right and leftwing presidential nominees throughout her life. Raised by Republican parents in Kentucky, she supported John McCain in the 2008 election then moving to the left-leaning politics and stating she recognized during the Obama era that backing conservatives was voting against her individual liberties as a woman.
Past Statements
Several years ago, she remarked that Trump winning the presidency would be “a disaster” and publicly supported the Democratic candidate in the 2020 presidential race. In the latest campaign, she gave her endorsement to Vice President Harris, “since I believe she’s an amazing candidate and I trust that she will make every effort to safeguard reproductive rights.”
Hollywood’s Stance
Jennifer Lawrence was joined by most of Hollywood in her opposition to the former president as a candidate for re-election, but the lack of leverage stars have over the voting intentions was emphasized by Trump’s victory.
“The second term feels different,” said she regarding his leadership. “Since he made his plans clear. We knew what he did for four years. He was very clear. And voters made that decision.”
Latest Film
The actor is discussing the drama, the filmmaker’s project in which she plays a new mother who faces challenges with her psychological well-being in the countryside. At a media event for the project in the film festival, the star addressed the conflict in Gaza: “I’m terrified. It’s horrifying. What’s occurring is nothing short of a genocide and it’s terrible.”
Wider Issues
She continued by stating that she was disappointed by “the lack of civility in the conversations of the political landscape at present and how that is going to be normalised to the kids now. It’s going to be standard to them that leaders are untruthful.”
She aimed to shift anger about the situation to policymakers rather than actors and artists. “Keep attention on the people in charge,” she advised, which was interpreted as a nod to the declaration endorsed by more than 4,000 Hollywood professionals to refuse engagement with specific industry bodies.
Individual Insights
Lawrence, who won an Oscar aged 22 for her part in her breakout movie, is attracting awards attention for her performance in her latest project. Although Lynne Ramsay has rejected the narrative being understood as one of maternal mental health issues and psychological distress, the actress said that she connected with elements of her film narrative after the birth of her youngest child, not long after shooting ended.
“I felt anxiety regarding my baby,” she said, “imagining every negative outcome, and then doubting everything that I was doing. I was seeing a therapist, but I started taking a treatment called the prescription and I used it for 14 days and it really helped.”
Film Challenges
The actor also mentioned about the empowering aspect of shooting revealing sequences in the movie while she was in pregnancy and limited physically.
“It’s refreshing,” she remarked, of being forced to cast off vanity. “Honestly, I occasionally wonder where I’m like, How exactly do I differ between my work and that profession? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
