Former Treasury Secretary Summers Steps Down from AI Company's Directors
One-time economic leader Larry Summers is departing from the governing body at the ChatGPT creator, just days after a series of emails between him and notorious criminal the accused trafficker became publicly available.
The economist commented in an announcement that he was "grateful for the privilege to have served, excited about the promise of the company, and anticipate tracking their development".
The former Harvard president, who once led Harvard University, declared on earlier this week that he would be withdrawing from public commitments due to his connections with Jeffrey Epstein.

The newly public communications showed that the economist corresponded with the financier until the 24 hours preceding the financier's 2019 apprehension for suspected trafficking of underage individuals.
In another announcement, the artificial intelligence company expressed it understood his decision to depart.
"We value his significant contributions and the perspective he offered to the Board," OpenAI commented.
Political Context
This announcement arrives after both chambers of Congress voted on recently to approve a bill that would require the US justice department to disclose its files on Jeffrey Epstein.
The legislation will subsequently move to the administration of President Trump for signature. He has stated he intends to endorse the measure, after modifying his position on the subject following pushback from his followers.

A group of Epstein-related emails made public by the Congressional committee last week referenced several prominent individuals in the financier's former circle, without implying any legal wrongdoing by those people.
The emails showed that Summers and the financier regularly had dinners together, with the billionaire often attempting to link the official to influential global figures.

After the emails were shared with the wider community, Summers said he assumed "complete accountability for my ill-advised choice to maintain corresponding with Mr Epstein".
He continued that he wanted "to restore faith and repair connections with the individuals nearest to me".

The economist served in leadership roles under party leaders; acting as Treasury chief under the former president, and as head of the White House economic team under President Obama.
He headed the university from 2001 to 2006 and is still a professor there. When announcing his departure from public duties earlier on Monday, he stated he would maintain his academic responsibilities.

Following Summers' announcement on Monday, the policy organization, a liberal think tank in Washington where Summers was a senior fellow, verified that Summers was ceased to be associated with the group.
He became part of the board of the technology firm, which develops the language model, in last year - following a failed attempt to replace its CEO OpenAI's head.
