Trump’s most recent warning to enforce an extra complete levy on Chinese goods has been described as a “prime illustration” of American hypocrisy, per the China’s leadership.

A representative of the ministry additionally remarked that China could enact its own undisclosed “responsive actions” if the American leader executes his warning, adding that the country was “unafraid” of a possible trade conflict.

Last Friday, Trump retaliated at Beijing’s move to reinforce its rules for exports of critical elements, charging China of “turning aggressive” and attempting to hold the global community “under its control”.

Additionally, he warned to pull out of a planned talks with Beijing’s head of state Xi Jinping, which was arranged for a conference in Seoul in the coming weeks.

Trump’s comments on Friday unsettled financial markets, with the benchmark US stock index dropping over two and a half percent, marking its biggest drop since last spring.

His comments reignited fears of a trade war between the United States and China.

This past spring, the both nations had reached an agreement to drop high import duties on each other’s imports, which had created the possibility of bilateral trade stopping between the two countries.

This left, United States levies on Chinese goods incurring an additional thirty percent tariff compared with the start of the year, while American products entering the Chinese market face a 10% tariff.

China’s latest remarks – issued by the Ministry of Commerce in the manner of written responses to press queries – reflected language from the zenith of the latest commercial tensions.

Officials denounced US export restrictions on semiconductors and chips while justifying Beijing’s export controls on rare earth minerals as “standard procedures” to ensure national security and that of the global community.

The official said that for “a long time”, the US had “overstretched the concept of national security, misused export control measures and “implemented” discriminatory practices against Beijing.

“Resorting to trade levy ultimatums is not the proper method to engage with Beijing,” the spokesperson commented.

“Beijing’s stance” on a trade conflict has always been consistent: we do not want one, but we are unafraid of one.”

Last week, China revealed it was tightening overseas sale regulations on key elements and additional substances critical for advanced tech manufacturing.

This was seen as a key move, as the country processes about 90% of the world’s rare earths, which are utilized in items such as solar panels and smartphones.

Latest statements from both governments are being seen by analysts as a means of bolstering negotiating stances in preparation for future trade talks.

Remains uncertain whether a summit between Donald Trump and President Xi, planned at a high-level meeting in Seoul in the coming weeks, will take place as planned.
